Cellulite is a condition in which the skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It is most noticeable on the buttocks and thighs, often referred to as orange peel syndrome or cottage cheese skin.
Dermatologists say that cellulite may affect up to 90% of women at some point in their lives.
Cellulite is often classified using three grades:
- Grade 1 cellulite sees no clinical symptoms, but a microscopic examination of cells from the area detects underlying anatomical changes.
- Grade 2 cellulite requires the skin to show pallor (pastiness), be lower temperature, and have decreased elasticity, in addition to anatomical changes noted by microscopic examinations.
- Grade 3 cellulite has visible roughness of the skin (like an orange peel) along with all grade 2 signs.
The more advanced the condition of cellulite, the greater the effort required to treat it. When treating cellulite, the congested lymph and waste system needs to be cleared, the fibrosis around the hardened pockets of fat needs to be softened or broken down and the weak network of collagen and elastin fibers needs to be strengthened and re-modeled.
Treatments*
At Vivella Med Spa, we offer several therapeutic methods for cellulite reduction. *Results may last up to six months.
Infrared and Radiofrequency systems
Perhaps the most promising medical therapy is one that uses radiofrequency systems such as VelaShape® which combines tissue massage, radiofrequency technology and infrared light to treat cellulite.
» VelaShape®
the only FDA cleared device for reducing the appearance of cellulite, for our patients that want a smoother, more toned body. This non-surgical body sculpting and cellulite treatment is the first and only safe, effective, and virtually painless treatment for body reshaping and cellulite. Most patients see gradual results throughout treatment with best results after six to eight sessions.
The VelaShape is the only non-invasive product to combine four different technologies including IR (infrared), Bi-Polar RF (radio-frequency) and mechanical tissue manipulation using pulsed vacuum and rollers. The combination causes deep heating of the connective tissue including the fibrous septae which in turn promotes an increase in collagen depositing and local cellular metabolism resulting in a localized reduction in skin laxity and volume. The additional mechanical tissue manipulation of the Vela causes an immediate increase in circulation and lymphatic drainage, both essential components for healthy skin structure. More than 3.5 million independent treatments have been performed globally to date confirming both the safety and unique efficacy of this technology.
» Endermologie®
attacks the root cause of ripples, orange peel and cottage-cheese-skin to counter the visible effects of cellulite. The system has been designed and perfected through years of development, giving you a powerful solution that even complex procedures like liposuction can’t match. Endermologie uses a hand-held machine to knead the skin between rollers to increase blood flow, remove toxins and stimulate lymphatic flow.
Endermologie is:
- Non-invasive patented technology
- Clinically proven to reduce visible signs of cellulite
- Eliminates ripples, orange peel and cottage cheese-like texture
- 100% safe and FDA-approved
- Provides optimal results with multiple treatments—may last up to six months
- Suitable for all post-adolescent patients and all skin types
- Administered by trained professionals
Weight Loss
Having cellulite doesn’t mean you are overweight. Even thin people can have it. If you are overweight, however, losing weight may reduce cellulite.
Weight loss — through healthy eating and regular exercise — is probably the most beneficial cellulite treatment. Losing pounds and strengthening muscles in your legs, thighs, buttocks and abdomen can improve the appearance of the dimpled skin. The benefits of weight loss alone are limited, however. Though the cellulite may be less noticeable after weight loss, it won’t go away completely.
